Parry Estate Kona
Starbucks has an ongoing relationship with the Parry Estate in Hawaii, where they often source Kona coffee. The farmer owner, JohnParry wants to be sure that his burlap sacks are unambiguously marked so you know where it came from! (I just noticed that the words Parry Estate take up a lot of the bag.)
In 2014, when Starbucks sourced coffee from the Parry Estate, it was featured in the Starbucks newsroom. It’s no surprise, when Starbucks goes looking for Kona in 2015, they reach out to John Parry’s Kona estate in Hawaii. I expect we will see Kona offered about once a year from Starbucks, with each yearly (seems to be spring) harvest.
One of the roasters at the Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room mentioned to me that “one slope of the mountain is the John Parry Estate and the other side is the three farms that make up the Ka’u cooperative.” That’s not verbatim, but the point is that Ka’u coffee and Kona coffee are kind of kissing cousins.
