Whiskey Barrel Aged Guatemala

Whiskey Barrel Aged Guatemala

On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Starbucks launched a new barrel-aged coffee. Starbucks has experimented with barrel-aged coffees several times, including Gin Barrel-Aged Rwanda and the fantastic Whiskey Barrel-Aged Sulawesi, which was the first Starbucks barrel-aged coffee.

This new barrel-aged coffee is aged in oak barrels sourced from Knob Whiskey in Kentucky. You can see the actual oak barrels used for this coffee on display at the Starbucks Reserve store at 2401 Utah Avenue South (this is not the Roastery, rather a flagship Reserve store.)

You can buy this exclusive coffee at both the Roastery and the Reserve store at the headquarters, and 8 ounces is 32 dollars. My understanding is that this is also available at the Roastery in Milan.

I’ve had it home both hot and cold. Starbucks recommends a cold brew method. For the sake of speediness, I brewed as a classic iced coffee, double strength and then poured over ice. It’s delicious both ways, but better iced than hot. I definitely got the sweet citrus notes out of it, though my brewing was imprecise and a little sloppy. I need to just go order it at the Roastery! It’s available as a beverage at the Roastery and Reserve store.

Enjoy!
